But after discovering CoverGirl Outlast All Day Lipcolor, my lips not only look sultry red or sweet pink all day long, our kisses are completely whine-less!

The 16-hour, food, kiss, and waterproof lipstick comes in 7 different shades of browns and spices, 6 burgundies and wines, 7 corals and reds, 7 mauves and berries, 7 neutrals and nudes, and 7 pinks and roses. No matter what the occasion or skin tone you have, there is a color for you! Wear it matte for a more contemporary look or use the moisturizing topcoat gloss to add a burst of shine.

But there are plenty of beautifying steps you can take to make sure you are fresh-faced and ready for romance the night of the 14th.

First of all, because champagne and Valentine’s Day go together like bread and butter, beauty brand Fresh has partnered with Veuve Cliquot with the release of what they call their “winter survival kit.” Cliquot in the Snow is available February 1st and includes favorites like the beloved Sugar Lip Treatment and a Citron de Vigne fragrance rollerball—a scent inspired by Cliqout itself ($60).

For just $20 nab Stila’s Love at First Blush set available at Sephora. What you’ll get: Microfine powder palate and Lip Glaze in Bubble Gum and Pinkle Twinkle. The palate even comes embossed with layers of lovely hearts.

Scent is a huge part of attraction, and no one does scents quite like Tom Ford. Nab his classic and unisex Tobacco Vanille. The scent unfolds with creamy tonka bean, tobacco flower, vanilla and cocoa, and finishes with a dry fruit accord enriched with sweet wood sap.

Nail art is still going strong, so is a heart on each nail too much? Go crazy with Shattered Pink Diamond Glitz. $8 at local retailers.

And if you need a day to relax before the big night, The Argyle Salon and Spa in West Hollywood has a true Turkish bath tucked away in their spa. A Hamman is a low-steam heated room, which exfoliates and detoxifies the body. $25 for 25 minutes. And if you’re so inclined… a hydra facial doesn’t sound to bad either.

It was all about her personal pronation. What’s that? People fall into three categories: normal pronation, overpronation, and under pronation. For a great description on pronation check out Runner’s World.

After a long run, unless we are wearing the right shoes, our feet, back, et al., are usually wailing in pain, and a good running shoe that fits your specific foot is pertinent.

There are three types of running shoes:

Motion Control: For people with flat or low arches

Stability: For people with medium arches

Cushioned: You guessed it… designed for people with high arches.

There should be a thumbnail length of space in the toe box of the shoe. This usually means you have to go up ½ a size. None of us like to wear bigger shoes. But in the case of the running shoe, a poor fitting shoe can cause all kinds of problems, including back issues and bunions.

You should replace your shoe every 350-550 miles. Not when the tread runs thin and you slide down that mountain.

And it depends on what kind of running you do: long, short distance, sprints, stairs. What you’re running on informs your shoe choice as well, i.e., sidewalks are terrible for knees. Even if you’ve been running for years and assume you know what the right shoe is, you could easily be mistaken if you’ve never asked.

Simpler outfits. People are streamlining their lives in all capacities. And in 2012, less is more.

Nude pumps. Foremost, these babies elongate your leg, creating some kind of leg extension optical illusion. Christian Louboutin is the undisputed master of the nude patent pump, but simple pump like Nine West’s Nickeya off-gold pump will never go out of style and can be paired with just about anything.

The Little Nude Dress. It’s like stepping out in your birthday suit. And if Louboutin is king of the nude heel, then Calvin Klein rules the court of the little nude dress. Top Shop has a couple of great options including: the Knitted Chunky T-Shirt Dress and The Tennis Dress by Boutique.

The Long Nude Dress. Gives you a bit more coverage. Again look to Calvin Klein for inspiration. This beautiful dress from Spring 2012 is lust-worthy. Anthropologie has a feminine and romantic long pleated nude dress called the Halvah Maxi Dress. It looks best on ladies that are tall and slender, but is great for day-to-night transition. The cut out on the shoulder provides a nice peek-a-boo balance to the length. And lets you show off all that yoga you’ve been doing in the New Year!

Nude Stockings. Thanks to Princess Kate and her sister, it’s a throwback to the past. Say buh-bye to lines, creases, cellulite, and veins. At least for the evening.

Nude Frames. Ladies and gents alike have been going bold with their choices in eyewear, but for a more refined, less obvious choice, frame your face with a pair of Burberry Bifocals that are modish, classic, and of course, nude.

Chantilly lace. Balconette bras. Bralettes. Boy shorts or barely there cutouts. It doesn’t matter your preference. It’s all fun to put on and show off (even if it’s just you dancing around your house in your skivvies).

Sexy and sophisticated lingerie is en vogue all year round and what better to go with a new you in a new year than some new unmentionables.

Forget cotton, it’s time to spice up your underwear drawer.

Never thought you’d say Gap and ooh-la-la in the same sentence? Well, Gap loves lingerie, and surprisingly they have some really simple and beautiful styles.

Model/artist Sasha Pivovarova designed this fairytale inspired Sleeping Beauty ensemble for Gap Body. It’s simple, but feminine. And if you like an extra bit of spice, is available in a satin-esque Gunmental Boselli.

Lingerie doesn’t have to be flashy or break the bank to be perfect. Honeydew lingerie can do no wrong, and their Fine Mesh Ruffle Bralette is fun and flirty with tiered ruffles. They also do the boy short just right. Cut for coverage without sacrificing cute.

We can’t quite talk about lingerie without mentioning that maven of unmentionables Kiki de Montparnasse. Some pieces aren’t for the faint of heart (in design and price tag) but her Muse Collection Heart Panty will surely make any heart pitter- patter.

Called the sexiest website in the world, Luxury Lingerie by Agent Provocateur can likewise make a pulse race. It’s exquisitely feminine and luxurious, and you won’t mind being caught in your knickers. The Love Collection, created with French Leavers lace is naughty and girly all at once. The Love Demi Bra, Love Slip, or Love Brief are the perfect additions to any panty drawer.

It is no wonder the beauty industry is a 160 billion plus dollar industry. Many women have reported that the recession has not affected their need to look their best. Even if that means spending more than they should on beauty products and roaming the stocked walls and aisles of Sephora.

Well in 2012. Less is more—both in cost and quantity. And 2012 can also be the DIY year, if you aren’t afraid to take matters into your own hands.

We love organic products, but not always the organic price tag. Many companies are working to lower the prices of their natural products that are cost efficient for the average consumer. Whole Foods is carrying 97% natural hair line Love + Toast for under $15. And if you’ve been living under a rock, Moroccan Oil is simply the best. And because sleek hair will always been en vogue, it’s the best treatment for your buck.

We spend a ton on highlights and lowlights, but at home hair color is getting more succinct and easy to use. Courteney Cox famously revealed her $9 hair-coloring trick. She has Friends money and still uses Clairol brass-free brunettes treatment. And while at-home treatments have the stigma of being accident-ridden, many companies are coming out with foam, mess-free applications. Clairol has one—and the reviews are positive.

If you’re going to splurge, do it on a concealer. Cle de Peau Beaute isn’t inexpensive, but it isn’t exorbitant. And it’s worth it. You won’t need a drawer full of cosmetics with the Clea de Peau Beaute Compact Foundation Set. Instead of wasting money on multiples, spend the money once. Plus it will help you get rid of all that clutter.

I’ve got a basket of dry cleaning that ashamedly has been piling up for a year. Word to the wise don’t ever under any circumstances follow suit. You’re better off not wearing your favorite pieces then letting stains sit and ruin them.

The problem is, dry cleaning is not cheap, especially since fashion brands have taken to stamping a dry clean only tag on just about everything. But there are a lot of items you don’t actually have to dry clean.

Fair warning: wash at your own risk, but these are all rules I follow, and they haven’t failed me yet.

100% Rayon: Anything that is 100% rayon will usually tell you it has to be dry cleaned. Not so. You can either hand wash in cold water, or wash on delicate in cold. You have to line or hang dry. Don’t wring out the item, but press the water out.

Don’t freak if your favorite rayon dress looks smaller. Rayon fabric tends to give the appearance of shrinking when washed, but when hung to dry, it will return to its regular shape.

Cashmere: It’s winter. You want to layer with cashmere. But it gets costly to clean a sweater every time you wear it out. Some emboldened ladies just wash and dry their cashmere, but The Laundress offers a Wool & Cashmere Shampoo. Hand wash and line dry.

Quick tips and tricks:

Examine your clothes and spray stains with pre-soak spray.

Turn your clothes inside out.

Typical hand wash soak time is 30 minutes (and never soak silk for longer).

Test out a couple of pieces. Be gentle and patient. And you’re sure to see that dry cleaning bill whittle down.

But this winter, think a little more practical and take a tip or two from the sea captain (think less leisurely nautical summer more hard-nosed fisherman), as fisherman sweaters and other seafaring themed wares take over.

Fisherman sweaters, originally hailed as The Aran sweater, take their name from the Aran Islands off the west coast of Ireland. A classical fisherman’s sweater is a bulky garment with prominent cable patterns on the chest. They last for decades and are a great investment sweater and are perfect for the unpredictability of winter. Wear one on a crisp stroll or bundled up beneath a jacket.

As always J.Crew has a couple of takes on the Irish classic.

There is the classic Handknit Fisherman Cable cardigan in snow.

For a pullover with a more of a punch of color, the Fisherman Sweater in acorn is a mix of alpaca and wool. This mixed stitch sweater has a s lightly shorter silhouette and looks great paired with ahigher waist pant.

There are a ton of vintage fisherman sweaters on Etsy for incredibly reasonable prices.

This Boat to Nowhere sweater, circa 1960-70 features a spit neckline with lapels, two side pockets and raglan sleeves.

If you like buttons, this Fisherman Sweater from seller fanciness is hand cream wool knit with two front pockets, shawl collar, and brown wooden button closure. Better yet, it’s in excellent condition.

Keeping in line with cable knit, sometimes you just want to be fashionable but cozy. Shakuhachi designed a Cable-Knit Playsuit that is mad to be worn curling up with a cup of hot cocoa.

And of course, every fisherman has his cap. Channel Captain Cousteau with a little red beanie.

Two of my favorite members only shopping sites are Hautelook and Beyond the Rack. These are the most up to date and fashion forward on the web in my personal opinion. How it works is that you have a specific amount of time to long in and shop for a particular brand. Each site works slightly differently. Hautelook for example opens at 8am Pacific daily with designer discounts on women’s and men’s fashion, accessories, beauty, kid’s apparel and toys. They even have discounts on home décor and travel getaways up to 75% off! To join you simply have to sign up for an account.

Beyond the Rack while equally fabulous works slightly different and is a bit more exclusive. There are three ways to join BTR, one is to be invited by a member, get a special invite from one of their marketing partners or request a membership. Beyond the Rack carries designer brand apparel and accessories marked up to 80% off retail. All of their merchandise is authentic and is available to members through limited time events generally lasting no longer than 48 hours. As with both Hautelook and Beyond the Rack, members are notified by email of various upcoming sales.

Both of these sites carry the latest and greatest, with sales on BCBG Max Azria, James Perse, Michael Kors, DKNY, Rebecca Minkhoff, Juicy Couture and so much more. So with this knowledge, now is your time to log in, click away and save while shopping for some of the best designer brands available.

Sephora is the mecca of stocking stuffers. Make up brushes and perfumes galore. You can’t go wrong.

bareMinerals The Golden Touch is a set of four mini makeup brushes in a travel-ready organizer that fits perfectly in a stocking or a purse.

The Marc Jacobs Rollerball Trio includes Daisy Eau de Parfum, Lola Eau de Parfum Roll-On, and Daisy Eau So Fresh Eau de Parfum.

Socks and Undies. Without fail I get socks in my stocking. The tradition started because my mom ardently believes that you have to wear something new on New Years. Not New Year’s Eve, but the morning of. She says starting off with something new (and on the right foot), ensures a great year ahead. And because I was way too impatient to wait until January 1 to wear the cute new outfits that appeared under the tree, she figured, I’d at least be able to hold off on wearing socks.

Marzipan Socks by Tintoretta with ruffles like when you were little.

Honeydew is a line that has affordable and adorable intimates. Their Diamond Mesh Bralette is cute enough for any stocking, as long as you aren’t shy about putting your undergarments on display for the fam.

Accessories. These gold-plated Jane Diaz Square Dangle Drops are like little windows to your heart. Plus they would look great with any jazzy NYE attire.

Your beauty comes from inside and the best way to reveal your charming spark is with a 100-watt smile! Many holiday treats have the potential to stain your teeth. If your teeth are yellow, you may feel insecure. Luckily, you don’t’ have to miss out on the most becoming accessory this year! With just a few holiday dietary adjustments and whitening toothpaste you can have those pearly-whites without spending your holiday bonus on teeth whitening treatments.

Brush or chew whitening gum

After tea time: Coffee and hot cocoa will stain your teeth. But, believe it or not, tea has the most
staining potential because of its leaves! Try drinking tea, cocoa, or coffee with a straw. This way the delightful liquid goes straight back to your throat so your teeth are less exposed to the staining drink.

After pie: Especially if it has blueberries or cherries! Dark colored berries have the potential to
stain both your nice holiday clothes and your smile.

After cranberry sauce: Another dark berry that is sure to stain!

Additionally, there are foods that can actually whiten and clean your teeth. Apples, celery and strawberries reduce some of the staining effects of other holiday treats. Try nibbling on them throughout the day or after a meal when a toothbrush is unavailable.

This year will be no exception. The cute and chic trend is still going strong, leaving plenty options for glittery dresses to wear to any occasion!

Daring, but not too daring: The Long Sleeve Dee Sparkle Dress by Guess is perfect for those of you who are a bit shy about looking like a disco ball, but want to moderately reflect the Christmas lights or Chanukah candles. Its conservative neckline makes it perfect for any family function and its daring, see-through back, exposed zipper, and front waist pleats show off sexy curves at any cocktail party. Accessorize it with a chunky necklace or daring earrings, a festive ring, and metallic heels.

Disco-ball mini: For those of you who want to shine the brightest, this Ella Sequin Mini Dress is sure to turn heads in its unpredictable purple color. The all-over sequin effect makes it a great dress for women with fewer curves. Go easy on the accessories so the look isn’t over-done.

Classic and Conservative Dazzle: Yes, you can still sparkle at your grandparents’ house this holiday season. Choose a dress like this Brooke Sequin Dress . Its silk, black belt, finished with a bow and keyhole back makes it a trendy and yet classic piece that even the Virgin Mary would approve of. Then, you can dress it up with some patent leather platforms after grandma’s dinner when you go to the big bad wolf’s house.

Casual Gitter: Yes, you can still strut sequins at casual holiday affairs! This Holy Sequin Dress is perfect for a low-key holiday dinner or a casual night out with friends. Pair it with some ballet flats and a classic blazer to keep it simple and comfy.

Sweet and Sparkly: This lilac Jozlyn Sequin Dress’ pleated mesh detailing and long tail makes it as sweet as sugar plums. Juxtapose it with some chunky platforms!

Hardly. Whether you live in a city with real seasons or you’ll be traveling to one, the winter style blues are one less thing to worry about. You can be bundled and still look cute (yes it is true!). From Fair-isle sweaters to stomp around boots, you’ll be the belle of the snowman’s ball.

Here are some ski-inspired finds that combine fashion and function.

Fair-isle is one print you can always expect to find inside a ski lodge. Splendid has an updated twist to the classic with their Fair Island Toggle Sweater available at Neiman Marcus. $228.00

Or if you aren’t so inclined to spend such a hefty bundle, be the most stylish bunny in ski school with this Ecote Totem Sweater for only $69.00 and can be found at Urban Outfitters.

Alexander Wang has a gorgeous Hybrid Tweed Ski Jacket, that will cost you a cool $1,695, available at Barneys New York, but you can definitely wear this one on and off the mountain.

Winter isn’t quite winter without Pendleton. Anthropologie offers a chic Penobscot Poncho from The Portland Collection by Pendleton. After a long day on the slopes, you want to look your best when curled up next to the fire. $348.00

J.Crew is offering an exclusive Sperry Top-Sider Tall Shearwater Boot in a chocolate-and-red color combo, these boots feature a waterproof rubber sole and foot and a shearling-lined leather upper. $178.00

And don’t forget your ears!

Not the kind of trapper you had in grade school. The Toscana Shearling Trapper Hat from J.Crew can be worn just about anywhere the weather permits.
Turtlenecks aren’t the typical go-to for a girls-night-out. In fact, most of us would rather hibernate than throw on such a constricting get-up. Ever since the word hemline entered the fashion vernacular in the 1930s, we ladies have been taking advantage of showing off, rather than covering up. And turtlenecks are not part of that repertoire.

But there are a few occasions and frosty-temperatured nights, where a turtleneck could be just what Mother Nature and Mother Fashion order.

Here are few important tips for wearing a turtleneck that are sure to flatter your face and body.

Fabric is a key component. Cotton turtlenecks that wore under ski clothes in the 80s are a no-go. Slim knits are flattering, and anything that is a little chunkier textured looks great on petite ladies or those will small-busts.

Fit and fall are vitally important as well. The thicker the knit, the higher the hem should hit. If you’re wearing something on the thicker side, make sure it hits above your hips to avoid looking bulky.

Know your neck and know your bust. If you have a short neck, a solid color is best. A slouchier, draped-neck also helps create a longer line. If you have a longer neck or a small bust, a dramatic, oversized neck will create good lines. A classic turtleneck is good for long or short necks, but bad business for big busts.

Accessorize properly. If your face is wide or the rounder side, make sure to pull your hair up into a ponytail. If your hair is hiding your jaw line and your neck is covered up, even the highest-cheekboned ladies will have some trouble. A long pair of earrings can also help elongate your face shape. If you’re shorter, wearing dark jeans will help elongate the overall look.

But before we launch right into Christmas (even though those dandy commercials have already made their way into our living rooms), let’s take a moment to revel in the smells of Thanksgiving.

What better way to smell the holidays than with a few key beauty products that have incorporated pumpkin into their ingredients?

From your hair to your body, here are some great pumpkin spiced products.

Simple Sugars Pumpkin Body Scrub

Try this nourishing skin body scrub from Simple Sugars that will leave you smelling delicious. Pumpkins are full of antioxidants and fruit enzymes that will leave you glowing.

Sexy Hair Pumpkin Rehydrating Shampoo

Rehydrate your hair and smell great in the process! This “sexy” scent will leave a trail of the holidays everywhere you go and contains moisturizing pumpkin fatty acids that condition and increase the moisture content in your hair.

Philosophy Pumpkin Spice Muffin Shampoo, Shower Gel & Bubble Bath

Sugar and spice and everything nice! Your bathroom will smell like your kitchen when you soap and lather with Philosophy’s line of pumpkin scented bath products.

Philosophy Lip Gloss

A holiday delicacy in a tube, this lip gloss is like eating pumpkin pie without the calories! And the “fresh from the oven scent” will leave chapped winter lips soft and smooth.

Desert Essence Organics Pumpkin Hand Repair Cream

This hand cream won a beauty award from Health Magazine and is certified to NSF Organic Standard. It has a natural scent, with a perfect hint of spice, and its creamy texture is absorbed instantly into your skin. Winter months can be drying, but not with this hand cream.

And because coffee is still sometimes the best wakeup beauty trick, pop by Starbucks and grabbed a pumpkin spiced latte.

These days fashion-forward women can take their menswear impulses a step further.

The bow tie is the latest borrowed-from-the-boy’s-club accessory to cross over into the realm of women’s-ready-to-wear. There are plenty to choose from—you don’t have to stick with a dainty,
feminine styled bow—but no matter which route you choose, it’s sure to be a dignified addition to any outfit. Wear with brogues and pomp and get ready to channel your inner Marlene Dietrich.

Madelyn Somers, the creator of Tycoon Neckwear has designed an assortment of bowties fashioned out of old neckties. These charmers are adorned with chains, tassels, and buttons. Plus 2% of profits support a great cause: Women for Women International. I’m partial to the paisley print bowtie. It’s perfection!

And if you need some style advice, Tycoon Neckwear’s lookbooks showcase some good ideas:

Velvet bow ties are a great way to integrate the masculine with the feminine. They are romantic and edgy.

How about a velvet, oversized bowtie?!

If you’re making the plunge, why not go a little nutty. Etsy has a wide array to choose from:

And if you aren’t quite ready to make the full-throated commitment, try a sweet dress like this little black number from Top Shop that takes the risk for you.

Tan skin without the summer sun is possible, not to mention safer!

Skincare companies are constantly coming out with self-tanning lotions with new, less-orange formulas to bronze our winter white skin. However, I have still had quite a few fake-tanning mishaps, as I’m sure you have too! Here is a way to avoid them.

Make sure to exfoliate before tanning. Then, in order to prevent zebra-stripe streaking use a gradual tanning lotion such as Jergens Natural Glow ($9.99) or L’Oreal’s Sublime Glow ($10) before applying an instant tanning lotion or aerosol spray such as L’Oreal’s Sublime Bronze ($10.79) or Neutrogena Micro-Mist Airbrush Sunless Tan Spray ($11.99). This will create a natural-looking base which is then enhanced, if you so choose, by the instant tanner resulting in a streak-free glow.

But you don’t have to lose your fashion panache just because we’ve lost the sun.

This winter add some Burgundy to your winter palate.

Call it Port, Cranberry, Rust, whatever! Burgundy is a color too often overlooked, but it’s a perfect compliment to chilly weather and hot cider. Most websites have a color bar on the side, so if you want to do some browsing, just click open the color closest to burgundy (almost always red) and peruse away. In the meantime, here are some goodies to get you started.

American Apparel is good for basics. They have a Burgundy Sleeveless Sheer Chiffon Blouse that features generously cut arm openings and wide neck that will look smashing when you pull off all your top winter layers.

They also have a perfect, form fitting Cotton Spandex Jersey Tube Dress that can be adjusted and transformed into a dress, top or skirt. It’s the perfect bottom layer to pop out from beneath a sweater and coat. Pair it with a great tan boot and sweater.

Urban Outfitters is a one-stop layering shop.

These Soft Knit Leggings from BDG are cut in a slim fit and tapered through the leg. Great on their own or as a layer:

And if you just want a little pop of Burgundy, layer these Pointelle Over-the-Knee socks over tights and into boots. They’ll provide and extra bit of warmth and their pointelle pattern adds a sweet twist to any outfit.

So if you’ve been trying to figure out how to incorporate leather into your day-to-day, look no further. Leather accents on clothing can add the right amount of edge to softer looks, and hip up your wardrobe without going overboard

If the leather dress isn’t up your alley, the Christina Leather-Accent Dress by Diane von Furstenberg pairs a patchwork of leather and silk. It’s just the right amount of naughty and nice.

Elie Tahari takes a more feminine approach with the Callie dress. This dress has subtle leather trim and a softer fall color palate.

This Olive and Oak Leatherette Tee is almost outfits your top in full leather garb but leaves soft knit accents on the sleeves. It’s also animal friendly. Faux is sometimes the best way to go.

If you can’t pull off the whole hog (no motorcycle required) motorcycle jacket, Rebecca Minkoff RTW Fall 2011 had a great alternative. The designers Linda jacket blends khaki with lambskin leather for the best of prep and rocker chic.

Aiko makes a beautiful and sporty Hack B Knit Sweater with a small leather accent at the boat neckline.

The Mackage Eloise Chic Coat is part military, part French sophisticate, with the smallest leather detailing on the sleeves.
