A shampoo done right is the first step to ensure that your hair looks its best, and even though it’s something we’ve been doing our whole lives, there is a not-so-crazy chance you might be doing it wrong.
How Often Do You Wash?
Turns out, there’s no one rule that fits all heads. Some ladies really need to wash every day, and others can go a week. However, you should try and space out washes for as long as possible. The hair has natural oils that are important for scalp and follicle health. Curly hair tends to be dryer and can go longer without a wash. But if you say, like to take a daily Bikram class and drench yourself in sweat, then you should make sure you are using a shampoo that is gentle enough for regular use.
Test it out: if you wash everyday, try an experiment and stretch your washes out. And vice versa.
How Wet Do You Get Your Head?
We all multi-task in the shower—shampoo bottle singing included—and sometimes when in a rush we don’t pay attention to how wet we get our head. This seems like a simple enough, no-brainer step, but pre-shampoo your hair should be soaking. Your hair and scalp are much more receptive to cleaning once every part is wet. (Opposite goes for conditioner—wring those strands out and let it work its magic).
Where Are You Shampooing?
I know. It’s fun to get a lather going on the top of you head, but your ends are the driest. Focus your efforts there. Hair needs natural moisture, and if it is deplete of moisture it will actually overcompensate by producing more oil.
Find a shampoo regimen that works for you and every day can be a great hair day.
