Our family has this ritual that has been going on as long as I can remember and it is “Family game night.” By the time I was a teenager; I would roll my eyes at the thought, but still showed up every Tuesday night and (secretly) had a blast. We played everything from Uno to Trivial Pursuit. If we were good, we were even allowed to invite a friend.
I had great memories of this, so I thought this would be a great thing to introduce to my own little family. Sure, I have a 4 year old, an 18 month old, and one on the way, so Risk might be a tad over their heads, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play games as a family. Right?
Just this last Tuesday, we gave it our first try. Number one on our agenda was to make a pizza and some popcorn, then it was time to play.
We started with Hide and Seek, figuring everyone could join in. This was the best game of hide and seek I have ever played. It lasted nearly 45 minutes! Daddy hiding under the couch cushions was a superb detail that made the kids giggle nonstop! We all lovingly took turns sitting on the couch, not quite sure why it was so lumpy.
Once our 18 month old went to bed, we turned to a more serious game of Uno. Our daughter loves Uno! She won two of the three hands that we played. Even now almost a week later she is still reminding us how she won, and how she plans to win again this Tuesday. She is quite the little smack talker for only being four.
So, no matter how old your kids are, find a game they love and get to making some family memories with them!
