Love to love her or hate her, Lady Gaga is nothing less than intriguing for her fans and haters. Lady Gaga is more than a music artist. Lady Gaga is a persona, a performance artist, a writer, a fashionista, a singer, and a diva.
Lady Gaga began her music career by writing for other artists like Britney and The Pussycat Dolls. Then finally, she released her own album. Her music caught on quickly, and it proved her talent. She writes her own music, and each single has a way to stick in your head and make you want to dance. She gets me through my workouts, out of a tired funk at work, through late night drives home, and she joins me when I am out dancing in clubs.
Her performances and music videos shy away from the boring guy/girl story played out in numerous pop songs. Instead, she involves giant high heels, weird makeup, and kidnappings that end with her lighting people and a bed on fire. If you haven’t seen it yet, please watch her videos for “Bad Romance” and “Telephone”. I promise you will be enthralled and confused at the same time. She is bringing back the ridiculousness that music videos used to be.
Some people think her edginess is over-the-top, unnecessary, and that she’s ugly. I don’t care though. She excels at pushing boundaries, and it is part of her act. She challenges fashion and wears whatever she feels like, which typically does not include pants. I am not sure how she walks around New York City dressed like that in winter, but the Lady does what she wants! I wait at the edge of my seat to see what craziness she will pull off (well) at her next televised performance.
So really, what is Lady Gaga? She’s pure escapism, and I will still dance to her jams when I am 95. Hate her if you want, but you can’t deny that this outrageous entertainer is a piece of art all by herself.
Also, I think I am going to wear some Diet Coke cans in my hair to work today.
