We are a product of our environments – and we are also a product of what we use to clean these environments. Many household cleaning products have a bad rep, and for good reason. Chemical packed products have been linked with various health problems, including asthma, headaches, and even cancer. Prioritize your health, and go green when you clean! All natural and less toxic alternatives are better for you and easy to make at home – and they save you cash! Here are some all natural ways to clean your home, using baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice, water, and olive oil.

Unclog that Drain

Clogged drains can be stubborn and smelly. Clear the congestion by pouring 1 cup baking soda and  1 cup hot, white distilled vinegar into your drain.  Let it sit for about 5 minutes, and then run warm water through it for a final rinse.

Windex-free Windows

I learned this trick from my dad a few years ago. For windows that are streak-free and chemical free, mix one part white distilled vinegar with one part water, and use a crumpled piece of newspaper to  wipe down your windows.

Say Goodbye to Bleach

Bleach has many harmful side effects . A cheaper alternative that doesn’t sacrifice your clean laundry is distilled white vinegar.  Add a cup to your next laundry cycle, and your whites will stay white!

Polished Wood

Polish your wood furniture using a mix of one part lemon juice to one part olive oil , and applying it with a cloth that is clean and lint free.  Let it shine!

Breathe with Ease

If you’re out of candles, make your own air freshener by boiling water with some cloves and cinnamon in it.  Now take a deep breath, and enjoy the scent of safety and savings.
