Waking up in the middle of the night is a surefire way to disrupt the next day’s activities.

Often, waking in the night is triggered by a type of insomnia, says Cleveland Clinic. Underlying health problems, such as chronic pain or acid reflux, can trigger the condition.

To get back to sleep, Cleveland Clinic recommends:

  • Stop watching the clock.
  • Relax with some stretches.
  • Get out of bed and move to another room.

If insomnia persists, seek medical attention.
