The date printed on your milk carton is not an expiration date, it’s the milk’s sell-by date, says the Dairy Council of California. It may be safe to drink milk a few days after the sell-by date.
The Dairy Council of California encourages consumers to:
- Store milk between 38 and 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
- After purchasing milk, drive straight home and refrigerate it.
- Never leave milk out for an extended period.
