Oh football, how I loathe and love you at the same time.  I loathe you because you take my husband away from me from August until the beginning of February, and on Sundays I become what is known as a “football widow.”  I love you because you are fun and only bother me on weekends (and Thursday’s at some points).

What I do love about football is Super Bowl Sunday.  I remember loving this day even as a kid, when all of the moms would take the kids bowling so the dads would be able to watch in peace.  I also love this day because it’s all about food and yummy food!  Since my husband and I got together we have always celebrated Super Bowl in a BIG, BIG way.  We don’t always do a huge party, but the food is enough for 20-30 people!  We don’t just put out chips and dip ether.   We go big- we do gourmet dips, seven layer dips, homemade wings, pizzas, pigs in blankets and more.  There was even a time we made a 6 foot sub.  That was hilarious!

This year we are only hosting about 5 people or so, but I have decided that I am going to try some new and fun things.  One of our friends literally doesn’t eat for a few days because he looks so forward to my food (what a compliment right?).

Here is just a sneak peek of what I will be serving Sunday:

Mexican 7 Layer Dip – this is a variation of mine.

Empanadas

Sour Cream and Onion Dip (old school and demanded by above said friend!) It is just sour cream and Onion Soup mix. MMM good.

Snack Food Stadium minus the Twinkies

*Remember, it’s all about presentation.  Just because its casual food doesn’t mean it needs to be a casual atmosphere.  Decorate, use fun plates!  Make the most of this man-centric day!
