Movies are a great place to find fashion inspiration. It doesn’t hurt that they have stylists on set tending to every nook and cranny of an outfit. You can be pretty sure that if it is on the screen, it has been pulled and plucked, fawned over and approved. If you take a cue from your favorite on-screen fashionable characters, unless you’re planning on channeling Charlie Chaplin (and hey that may even work!), or maybe Charlize Theron in Monster, you’ll usually be in the clear.
Julie Delpy in Before Sunrise is one oldie but goodie that sticks out. She looks so chic and casual and she peruses about Prague with Ethan Hawke. Her backpack and flannel tied loosely around her waist are staples of that grungy 90’s look, but she still manages to look elegant and fresh (that French accent and face don’t hurt either).
To get Julie’s look here are a few places you can look.
For her long casual dress try James Perse. His clothes hug women’s bodies just right, and while they keep you covered, you can still show off your curves.
For some boots, check out Urban Outfitters. They always have relatively well priced leather boots in their arsenal.
For a comfy old flannel, try perusing a few vintage or thrift stores. There is nothing better than a shirt that is already worn in for you. Give it a few good washes and make it all your own.
And for that perfect backpack, Etsy is the best place to look. This seller out of San Francisco carries a ton.
