Come every spring and summer there are a handful of trends that crop up (pun intended)— that everyone wants to try, but has a few hesitations.  This year, it’s the crop top.  We aren’t talking Baby One More Time tummy, I stole this from my teenage daughter, 80’s revival Lisa Frank colored crop top, but modern, chic and updated, even dressy crop top.  Because yes, it’s possible to wear one without looking ridiculous.

A few tricks to pulling it off, and a few styles just for fun.

  1. Wear clothing that you would never usually associate with a crop top, like a blazer and a trouser.
  2. If you like the look of it, but aren’t comfortable baring your belly, you can always, wear it over something, i.e a crop top can give balance and color to a maxi dress.
  3. Wear it with a full skirt a la Dree Hemingway, and give it a 40’s vibe. The trick is to not show off too much skin.
  4. Loose is in, but leave slouchy for the couch.  Fitted crop tops help take an outfit from beachy to night out peachy.

A Cut Above the Rest.

Born on the 4th of July. Show Patriotism not partisanship all summer long straight through the elections.   A sweater crop is a great alternative to its smaller, more revealing cousins.  Might I suggest wearing pants (unlike the photo)?

Eyelet is a great way to be lady-like with your crop. You could even wear it to work.. And a fitted eyelet goes great with a trouser.

The Crop Front Tie Blouse is a good way to make the crop look more innocent, less tart-let.

This Cut Short Crop Tank is for beach days and the retro high waist shorts you’re going to live in this summer.
