You may have the best of intentions for healthier eating, but the holidays tempt even the most motivated people.

The American Heart Association suggests:

  • Stock up on nutritious snacks and keep them on hand to avoid munching on junk food.
  • Pause before hitting the buffet table to remind yourself how badly you want to lose weight. Load your plate with fruit, veggies and a small serving of less-healthy fare. Don’t go back for seconds.
  • Prepare meals in advance to keep yourself from the drive-through line when you’re hungry after work.
  • Drink a big glass of water when you start craving something unhealthy. This helps tell your stomach you’re full.
