There is nothing less flattering than black lines of mascara running down a cakey face of foundation on the beach. You can still avoid beauty disasters without shunning water like the Wicked Witch of the West. Don’t limit your summer fun with a make-up overload. Instead, use these tips for a melt-proof, natural-looking face and look surfer-girl glam and fresh!

Prep your face with a gentle sulfate-free cleanser, a nighttime moisturizer infused with ceramides and olive or coconut oil, a day eye cream with cucumber extract, and, of course, an all natural sunscreen with at least an SPF 30.

To create that beach babe glow, exfoliate a couple times a week. If you have sensitive skin, use a chemical exfoliator with lactic or glycolic acid. To even out skin tone, reduce oiliness, and extract grime from pores use a microdermabrasion treatment.

For youthful skin, try a prescription strength retonic acid. According to dermatologist Dr. Shamban, it accelerates cell turnover and promotes collagen production. Ask your dermatologist for a prescription or start with a gentler over-the-counter formula and you will be glowing sans make-up in no time!

Increase your blood circulation and detoxify pores by breaking a sweat. Exercise not only gives you that postworkout radiance, it also “replenishes oxygen, which feeds skin cells,” according to Dr. Marmur on Self.com.

Before priming your complexion, lightly spray your face with rosewater to calm skin and reduce redness. You can also use it throughout the day to refresh your make-up too!

Minimize shine and create an airbrushed look with a primer made with silicone polymers instead of using powder or foundation. Then, use your pinky finger to apply a light concealer under eyes. If you have extreme dark circles, use a light reflecting formula. Finish the look with a blush tint on cheek bones, a waterproof mascara on lashes, and a light pink or nude 24-hour lip color!
