It is no secret that I am a firm believer in parents stealing away for the occasional date night. In fact I think it should be more than just occasional.  Moms and dads need that time together in order to be effective parents. Along those same lines comes the occasional mom (or dads) night out. They may not be as necessary as a date night, but they still serve a mighty purpose.

Getting out with your fellow mom friends allows you to release some of your thoughts about your daily life. Sometimes it’s great to get advice and perspective about your kids, and life, from someone who isn’t directly living it. Plus, it’s always good to just good to talk another girl every now and again! Your night out with the girls does not have to break the bank. It’s also not a secret that I am as cheap as they come.

A favorite for me and my girls has always been happy hour. A margarita and appetizer shared among the girls is a great stress reliever. That’s not to say that that’s what we always do. Sometimes we meet at someone’s house to watch movies, or forget the movies and just chat. Other great ideas ar themed food parties. Everyone brings an appetizer or dessert that starts with the letter “D.” Book clubs are great nights out if you love to read and talk all about it. More fun can be had at pottery painting studios.

It really doesn’t matter what you do, so long as you get you girls together and celebrate being in this battle called parenthood together. Compare war stories, and battle scars with them. You will find yourself refreshed and clear headed enough to handle the next thing your kids throw you way. It’s always good to be reminded that you not in this alone.
