You may be asking, did it ever leave?  Not exactly, but this summer your jute-soled friend is making a discernable footprint on beachy shores everywhere.   Summer shoes have a tendency to get destroyed. The wind, the surf, the carefree spirit of your feet in general—come summers end, sandals are a wrap.

That’s the best part about the espadrille—their price tag rarely crosses into triple digits, and they are a round-the-clock shoe, some with patterns some without, and most are flat enough you can slip them in your carry on, or even in your purse.

Here are some of the best the web has to offer.

J.Crew and Soludos have teamed up to provide you with the Classic, modeled after traditional espadrilles that have been sold in the markets and on beaches in the Mediterranean for centuries.   Snatch them up in navy or red stripes or blue chambray.

Soludos seems to be teaming up with everyone, because Opening Ceremony has whipped up another exclusive collaboration with the company.  Check out their OC Striped pair in orange to add a little push-pop in your step.  It might be the first time you can walk away(and in style!) from OC without breaking the bank.

If you still want a little boost off the ground, try the Kimchi Blue Espadrille Flatform (no that’s not a typo, it’s called a flatform).  They give you a 1.5” lift off the ground, so you don’t look like you’re trying to hard.  Just because you’re going casual, doesn’t mean you have to be short.  Plus they come in a fun variety of colors.

And if you want to go even higher, the YouDig black and tan canvas and rope closed toe version from Nine West’s Vintage American collection is simple, understated, and keep it classy.
